Korea's SME & Startups Ministry Appoints First Woman Spokesperson

  • A woman has been appointed as Spokesperson for South Korea’s Ministry of SMEs and Startups for the first time
  • Kim Ji-hyeon, former director-general for win-win cooperation policy, has been appointed to be the new Spokesperson

 

For the first time, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups has appointed a woman as Spokesperson. The Ministry announced on the 28th that former director-general for win-win cooperation policy, Kim Ji-hyeon, has been named the new Spokesperson.

Kim Ji-hyeon graduated from Busan Dong Girls’ High School, earned a degree in Chemical Engineering from Pusan National University, and completed a degree in Business Administration at KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology). She entered public service in 2004 after passing the 39th technical administration exam.

Kim has held a number of positions in public administration related to both the Overseas Markets Division and the Technology Development Division at the Small and Medium Business Administration and as an administrative official in the Office of the Secretary for SMEs and Startups at the Presidential Secretariat.

She served in various positions at the Ministry of SMEs and Startups: head of the Startup Policy Coordination Division at the Office of the Director-General for Startup Promotion Policy; head of the Policy Coordination Division at the Office of the Director-General for SME Policy; head of the General Affairs Division; and director-general for win-win cooperation policy at the Office of the Director-General for Microbusiness Policy.
