  • Hormona, a health technology startup based in London, has raised €7.8 million in seed funding
  • The company specializes in women's at-home testing and AI-powered hormone tracking
  • Seeks to assist women in monitoring, understanding, and maximizing their hormonal well-being

Hormona, a London-based HealthTech startup, has raised €7.8 million in seed money to expand its business and introduce its ground-breaking at-home hormone testing devices. It helps women monitor, comprehend, and maximize their hormonal health through at-home diagnostics and AI-powered tools. Voima Ventures (Helsinki) and SuperNode Global VC (London) led the round, with DLF Ventures, former investors Swedish Nascent Invest, and Techstars (US) providing additional support.

Karolina Löfqvist, co-founder and CEO of Hormona, explained her own reasons for starting the company
“Women have been compelled to deal with hormonal problems through trial and error for far too long, frequently going years without finding solutions. With real-time insights and no invasive testing, we created Hormona to help women take charge of their hormonal health. We are one step closer to realizing that vision on a global scale thanks to this investment”.

Hormona, which was founded in 2020 by Karolina and Jasmine Tagesson (COO), provides medically supported advice and AI-driven, customized hormone tracking to assist women in managing hormone-related disorders and imbalances. To guarantee results supported by science, the company collaborates closely with a group of endocrinologists, gynecologists, and nutritionists.

It currently employs 12 people and has raised €10.2 million in total funding. Karolina’s personal experience with a common but undiagnosed hormonal condition—which she claims affects up to 80 percent of women worldwide—led to the creation of the startup.

The recently raised money will be used to introduce Hormona's first-ever, fully quantitative hormone tests, which the company says are 90 percent as accurate as conventional blood tests but far more widely available and reasonably priced. Hormona provides continuous, lab-free monitoring at a lower cost than traditional hormone tests, which typically cost about €177 per test.

Hormona's mission was commended by Inka Mero, Managing Partner and Founder at Voima Ventures "Hormona is spearheading a global movement in women's health that focuses on hormonal health, one of the most neglected but crucial areas. We are honored to back this forward-thinking group and the influence they are making”.

The business also draws attention to the gender health disparity that still exists today: in the UK, all-female founding teams received only 2 percent of all equity investment in the last year, and only 2 percent of global medical funding funds women-specific health research

Advanced features like personalized cycle predictions, lifestyle advice, and supplement recommendations aimed at mitigating the symptoms of hormonal imbalance are available in Hormona+, the company's premium version.

Inka Mero and Gina King will join Hormona's all-female board to support the company's next phase of growth, contributing their extensive HealthTech knowledge and mission-driven innovation.
