Today's Annual Stockholders' Meeting saw SM Investments Corporation (SM Investments) induct Marife B. Zamora as an independent director to its Board of Directors. Her joining enhances the firm's governance structure, ensuring the Board maintains a majority of independent directors—over and above requirements by law and reiterating SM's commitment to transparency and ethical leadership.
Marife is also the second independent female director, following Atty. Lilly K. Gruba, adding to the diversity and inclusive leadership of the Board. "I'm genuinely privileged to be joining SM's Board," she added. "SM embodies the dynamism and advancement of the Philippine economy. I look forward to contributing to a company that believes in independence and sound governance".
An experienced executive in the telecommunications, insurance, and business process outsourcing industries, Zamora is also a fervent champion of women in leadership and technology. She is a member of the Board of Trustees of the FTW (For The Women) Foundation and Co-Founder of the Filipina CEO Circle, an organization of influential women shaping industries.
She assumes the position formerly occupied by Tomasa "Tammy" H. Lipana, who has served out her maximum nine-year term. "The Board wishes to express sincere gratitude to Director Lipana for her long and excellent service and for her invaluable contributions throughout the years," said SM Investments Chairman Amando M. Tetangco, Jr. "We also welcome warmly Ms. Marife, whose experience and leadership will be a tremendous addition to the group."
