  • Bukola commended the Tinubu-led administration for its support of women in the industry

Barrister Bukola Teriba, the Lagos Regional Manager of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), encouraged women in the aviation industry to take advantage of the enabling policies put in place by the federal government to advance their careers.

She said that Nigerian women have been empowered by the President Bola Tinubu-led administration to show their capabilities and professionalism, with many women occupying managerial positions in various agencies under the Ministry of Aviation.

Barrister spoke after receiving the “The Woman of the Day” award at the Women in Aviation (WAI) 2025 award night in Lagos. According to her, the present administration has made it possible for women to have more leadership positions in the aviation industry, and she urged women to continue to demonstrate their capabilities.

She said, “Women are not left behind in the industry; we have demonstrated that women can do even better than men, as shown by the achievements of women in leadership positions in the industry.”

Talking about the mission of Women in Aviation International, Barrister said, “It’s not just an organization; it’s a movement that aims to empower women and men in Nigeria. The mission is to enable people to do what they thought they could not do in their lives through technology, leadership, and economic transformation.” She also talked about the values of aviation, which are alignment, precision, discipline, and trust. These values are the spirit of the movement.

Barrister encouraged women to take advantage of the opportunities available in the industry, saying, “When women move together with purpose and preparation, the industry changes.” She also encouraged young girls who want to pursue a career in the industry, saying, “The sky is not our limit, it is our runway.”

Speaking at a recent event in Abuja, the current National President of Women in Aviation International Nigeria (WAI), Rejoice Ndudinachi, shared some insights on the mission of WAI and how it has become a powerful movement.

She defines WAI as more than just an organisation, it is a movement with purpose and the conviction to create opportunity for women in all areas of aviation (including flying and decision-making).

The vision of WAI is to empower women to be leaders and to inspire future generations. Rejoice also mentioned that women like Capt. Chinyere Kalu have opened doors for future generations of women in aviation. She further encouraged women to unite and support one another; every small step taken will contribute to the future of aviation.
