According to a company representative on Wednesday, Nike has delayed the launch of a new women's activewear line in the United States, which was originally planned in collaboration with Kim Kardashian's shapewear company Skims.
The joint venture, which was introduced in February, is a component of CEO Elliott Hill's strategy to strengthen Nike and expand its product line in order to compete with rivals like Deckers' Hoka and on, which is backed by Roger Federer. Women's training apparel, footwear, and accessories will be part of the new line, “NikeSKIMS”.
To give the two businesses more time to improve the product, the rollout has been delayed. It was initially planned to launch in a few U.S. retail locations and online in the spring of 2024, with wider distribution to follow in 2026. The delay was first reported by Bloomberg.
Since its founding in 2019, Skims has gained popularity for its upscale bras, loungewear, and shapewear. Investors and analysts have welcomed Nike's partnership with Skims, seeing it as a potential crown prince in the tight women's activewear market, which is currently dominated by brands like Lululemon and Gap's Athleta.
The Nike x Skims collaboration is a strategic alliance between Kim Kardashian's shapewear and lifestyle brand Skims and Nike, one of the top sportswear companies in the world. A collection of women's activewear, including training clothes, accessories, and footwear, will be offered by the new line, which is anticipated to be called NikeSKIMS.
This collaboration aims to bring together Nike's performance-driven innovation and Skims' focus on inclusivity, body positivity, and comfort. It was initially planned to launch online and in select U.S. retail stores in the spring of 2025, but the release date has been delayed while both businesses improve the product.
