Novo Holdings, the international life sciences investor, today announced its investment in Surya Hospitals, which is the largest private specialty women’s and children’s hospital chain in Western India.

This significant minority stake acquisition is indicative of Novo Holdings’ commitment to investing in the best-quality healthcare platforms available in India.

Established in 1984, Surya Hospitals has more than four decades of experience and is also considered one of the leaders in the domain of women, neonatal, and pediatric healthcare services.

Surya Hospitals has super specialty centers at Mumbai, Pune, and Jaipur, and the main focus lies on maternal and child healthcare services. Surya Hospitals has upgraded services from time to time and offers comprehensive and advanced facilities in gynecology, neonatology, pediatrics, and surgically specialized services.

The hospital chain is recognized for its excellent medical skills and patient outcomes, with infant survival rates above 97 percent that meet international standards. Surya's success story is further fueled by its highly trained medical professionals with accomplished senior neonatologists, pediatricians, and obstetricians on board.

The investment made by Novo Holdings will facilitate the growth of Surya Hospitals in terms of expanding operations in Western India and upgrading their medical facilities and staff.

The combined efforts and strategies of both Surya Hospitals and Novo Holdings will enable them to build strong medical expertise and a global medical network.

Amit Kakar, Managing Partner and Head of Asia at Novo Holdings, said, “Focused healthcare delivery is one of the prime areas of focus for Novo Holdings in India, particularly in regions where quality healthcare is of prime significance. Surya Hospitals has earned itself excellent exposure over decades in terms of maternal and child healthcare services. We are eager to assist Surya in achieving greater heights in this domain.”

Navjeewan Khosla, Partner at Novo Holdings Asia, added, “India is an important strategic market for us at Novo Holdings, with favorable demography and growing demand for super-specialty healthcare. With the change in demography due to increased maternal age and Urbanization, there is a huge unmet need in this space, and institutions such as Surya Hospitals are well-poised to address this need.”

Dr. Bhupendra Avasthi, Chairman and Managing Director of Surya Hospitals, added: "We are delighted to welcome Novo Holdings as a strategic partner. Their long-term outlook and profound knowledge in the healthcare space make them the best possible partners for us to help us grow while also adhering to the highest levels of care for women and children."

This is yet another investment made by Novo Holdings in their healthcare portfolio in India, which extends into healthcare services, diagnosis, and healthcare platforms or technologies.
