Hofstra University students attended the Women’s Business Expo, which took place on March 23rd in the Sondra and David S. Mack Student Center during common hour. The event consisted of different tables representing different types of women-run businesses.

The event revolved around themes such as identity and purpose, and provided young entrepreneurs with a platform to promote their brands and ventures. The tables were decorated with professional signs and banners, ensuring they stood out in the student center atrium.

The variety of businesses represented different industries, such as hair styling, baking, and women’s health advocacy, among others, and depicted the different types of ventures created by women around and within the university community.

People were able to interact with the entrepreneurs and learn more about their ventures, most of which were related to the entrepreneurs’ interests and hobbies.

One such entrepreneur, Aydan Smith, a senior international business major, participated in the expo and represented her women’s health venture, OurBloom.

She explained how such events contributed to raising awareness and supporting public education concerning menstrual health problems, and how they also contributed to supporting initiatives such as this throughout the academic year, with the university itself playing a vital part in such matters.

Most of the businesses involved operate locally, thus fostering a sense of community. Though most of the entrepreneurs involved were students, the expo showcased that anyone can be an entrepreneur with enough commitment and drive.

The expo was also a platform where entrepreneurs supported one another’s ventures. Amy Grover, a junior majoring in business analytics and a member of SheEOs, observed that being part of student organizations was instrumental in developing networks and facilitating personal development.

The expo was sponsored by Zarb Women in Business and Intercultural Engagement & Inclusion. According to IEI Associate Director Hugo Morales, the expo was meant to recognize and celebrate women entrepreneurs, especially during Women’s History Month.

The entrepreneurs participated in the expo through a submission process, which was advertised through social media.

The process allowed sponsors to promote entrepreneurs’ ventures genuinely. The expo was a one-day event, but it was instrumental in giving entrepreneurs visibility, thus emphasizing the significance of inclusion, especially women’s ventures.
