  • Thompson will embody the SHI brand while she trains for the next 2025 Deaflympics in Tokyo this November
  • SHI, a worldwide IT solutions provider, continues to be a partner of inclusion and excellence through athlete relationships

Rutgers University swimmer Brooke Thompson is the latest brand ambassador for SHI International, a leading global IT solutions provider. She will be advocating for SHI as she prepares to lead the world in the Tokyo 2025 Deaflympicsthis November.

Brooke, a Michigan Bloomfield Hills junior, is the USA Deaf Swimming Record holder at 50 meters freestyle (23.53), set at the 2025 Big Ten Championships. She was also the 200 Medley Relay ECAC title winner this year. Born completely deaf, Brooke is a strong advocate for adaptive technologies and workplace diversity. She received her first cochlear implant at age 1 and her second one at age 4.

Brooke is among other SHI ambassadors such as LPGA Tour players Jennifer Kupcho, Gurleen Kaur, and Allisen Corpuz, and U.S. Women's National Team goalkeeper Casey Murphy.

SHI Senior Director of Communications Ed McNamara commended Thompson's determination and advocacy:  “Her achievements are impressive, but what truly makes Brooke remarkable is her openness in sharing her journey and raising awareness about adaptive technologies that level the playing field. We’re proud to support her.”

Brooke started competitive swimming as a precaution when her parents signed her up for lessons. They were doing it so that children with cochlear implants would have water safety assured. It was that decision that set her on a career path of 11 medals at two World Deaf Swimming Championships and 8 medals, 5 of which were gold and 3 bronze, at the 2022 Deaflympics in Brazil.

She commented on her appointment:  "Working with SHI is a good fit because they realize that hard work and support from all people leads to success. Through the appropriate mindset and tools, obstacles can be steppingstones".

Brooke is studying business leadership and management and previously spoke at SHI’s 2024 End User Computing Summit, where she addressed more than 300 IT professionals about creating inclusive workplace cultures. Her message emphasized the importance of enabling employees with disabilities to access adaptive tools freely and confidently.

In Tokyo, Thompson will be competing on behalf of the USA Deaf Sports Federation against deaf and hard-of-hearing athletes who do not wear hearing aids to level the playing field.
