  • US officials reveal about the plans of Trump administration for major changes in US State Department
  • The changes will involve the expulsion of Special Envoy position for women of Afghanistan

In a recent reveal by four US officials, it has been said that Trump administration is preparing for major changes for US State Department. As outlined in a draft executive order, the mentioned changes will involve Special Envoy position for women of Afghanistan’s elimination which is a post created for advocating the rights of women and girls in the nation.

The New York Times published a report in which a draft order claims to dissolve offices that are tied to democracy promotion, human rights, immigration as well as climate change. Aligning with the goal of the administration for streamlining foreign policy, the proposed restructuring will match the strategic vision of the president.

Further indicating towards the positions related to women’s affairs, the document included the Office of the Special Envoy for Women of Afghanistan which are listed amongst the ones to be eliminated. Such roles removal could lead to far-reaching implications for female’s rights advocacy, especially, in conflict and post-conflict regions.

As part of a broader effort, this refurbishment looks forwards to “reduce waste and align foreign policy spending with U.S. national interests.” By October 1, the proposed reforms are set to be implemented, as per the document. Since the draft has not yet been publicly released and not finalised, the officials spoke on condition of secrecy.

Furthermore, the draft should go into effect while resulting in the closure of dozens of US embassies along with consulates, specifically in African and European nations, substantially reducing the diplomatic footprint of America.
