15.26 percent of the partners at hedge funds, private equity, and other financial services in the UK were women, down by 0.1 percent from the previous year, according to a report by the law firm Fox & Partners.
There were 794 women who held partnership roles in these fields, while 4,411 male partners worked in these sectors. According to Anu Chhabra, founder of the Women in Finance Group, should meaningful changes be made in recruiting, retaining, and advancing women in the financial services industry, it will experience stagnation.
With regard to the number of women in senior management positions, the financial services sector had more gender diversity than the private markets, which are generally slower than the rest of the finance industry.
Catriona Watt of Fox & Partners indicated that the slow rate of growth of women's representation in finance during the past two years could be attributed to a backlash against diversity and inclusion initiatives after Donald Trump's election.
She added that the lack of progress could cause more women to file lawsuits against their employers for discrimination. Hedge funds and private equity firms are not given the same level of scrutiny as publicly-traded financial services.
This report used information obtained through the Freedom of Information Act via the Financial Conduct Authority, as well as a report from September which indicated that women hold 18.6% of senior leadership roles in UK financial establishments.
