Yvonne Taylor Takes Charge as BICSc Chair

Yvonne Taylor, Head of Cleaning and Support Services at Compass One, has taken on new leadership position as Chair of the British Institute of Cleaning Science (BICSc), an independent professional and educational body representing the cleaning industry.

Yvonne is set to serve a three-year term at the helm of the BICSc Council, offering strategic leadership to the Council to guide the approach of the organization towards industry standards, frameworks for best practice, professional qualifications, skills development, and workforce training.

Other than offering strategic leadership to the Council, she will also focus on leading the commercial side of BICSc, with emphasis being on ensuring that the organization’s professional services continue to cater for the changing needs of the cleaning industry.

The appointment comes following Yvonne’s several years of engagement with the organization. Yvonne was appointed to the BICSc Council in 2018, where she played a crucial role in developing and transforming the Council, before being elected to become the Deputy Chair by her peers.

As part of her new role as a leader, Yvonne plans to concentrate on technological transformation and staff development with the application of digital innovation and new technologies likely to play an integral part in her strategy for the BICSc. This includes working to make sure that the training courses offered by the Institute develop in line with changes within the industry, as well as developments in technology and skills needed by both the cleaning operative and client.

Yvonne also plans to help shape the image of cleaning as a profession which can offer a worthwhile career path, skills development, and career progression. She believes that providing better access to education, training, qualifications, and careers will be fundamental in recruiting the next generation of professionals.

In addition to her role within BICSc, she also acts as manager of cleaning and support services at Compass One, which covers the ESS and Healthcare divisions of the company. She deals with a range of different operational environments, which include military sites, government organizations, offshore energy sites, NHS hospitals, and private healthcare organizations. This gives her a well-rounded operational view of the delivery of services and professional development issues.

As a seasoned woman leader, she has more than three decades of experience and also possesses a career marked by advancement within a profession. Yvonne’s career journey started in 1995 and her progression from an entry-level position to a senior industry leadership role demonstrates the significance of professional qualifications and training for career building in the sector.
