Breaking Barriers: Women Leaders Act As Role Models & Inspire You

Due to age-old cultural and systemic biases, leadership as a concept has been associated with men, shaped by traditional power structures that favours male-counterparts. However, time has changed everything, sparking a paradigm shift with a focus on gender balance in leadership positions. The society and business world has woken up to the need for gender balance which in turn has highlighted unique perspective that women bring to leadership roles.

Additionally, the global rate of changes regarding gender parity in senior leadership positions continues to remain slow. As per Grant Thornton's 2025 Women in Business report, the overall advancement rate is concerning drawing similarities from those who are associated with sluggish economic growth.

In the current edition of GWL magazine, we take a closer look at Ghana and its quest to empower women in the business world. We feature interesting conversations with accomplished business women who have redefined gender roles and are breaking the glass ceili ng in their respective fields.

One such name is Clara KasserTee, a pioneering Ghanan lawyer specializing in regulatory frameworks and institutional policy. With a track record of legal excellence and though leadership, Clara brings deep insight into Ghana’s corporate and regulatory landscape. Clara ‘s expertise is backed by a stellar academic record which helps her to advise multinational clients on corporate transactions, tax strategy, commercial law, and regulatory compliance, and has liaised extensively with legislative bodies, regulators, and international legal partners.

We also meet Geena Malkani who brings a future-forward lens to leadership as the Director and COO of Springfield Group. Known for her systemic thinking and executional rigor, her unwavering dedication is evident in Ghana’s energy space, co-leading transformative oil lifting contracts, championing Springfield’s evolution into a regional industry pioneer.

In this edition, also read an interview featuring, seasoned mining and petroleum engineer, Thiam Melyou, the Managing Director of Energia Africa. She combines technical expertise with strategic vision, championing transparency, innovation, and women's leadership in Africa’s energy sector through media, policy analysis, and industry engagement. Presently positioned as the Secretary and Research officer at Ges-petrogaz, she was elected as the 50 Women who influenced the World of Energy 2025.

These women are role models and source of inspiration for aspiring women leaders in Ghana and beyond.
