The global narrative of women’s leadership is no longer centered on firsts alone; but have increasingly become about influence, implementation, and measureable results. All over the world, women are leading corporations, building thriving ecosystems, driving technological revolutions, and creating dynamic startup cultures. Since their involvement transcends mere presence, they have come together to create value through sound governance, innovation, economic success, and social impact.

This week’s GWL WEEK WRAP edition includes stories that represent a worldwide scale where women expand their influence across business, government, diplomacy, academia, entrepreneurship, healthcare, and sports. Women strategically steer enterprise transformation by driving digital adoption and AI innovation, strengthening governance, influencing policy, and delivering sustainable economic and social value.

As a symbol of inclusion, women leaders have taken to become primary drivers of change in organizations all around the world. With Sili Jacobson steering operational excellence at JPMorganChase and Caroline Connan shaping the future of Data and AI at Pernod Ricard, women leaders continue to expand their influence across industries and geographies. These accomplishments are viewed more than individual successes as they represent a global trend where women spearhead change and play an important role in the evolution of institutions.

Leadership Moves & Executive Excellence 

Women are increasingly becoming important architects of enterprise success because their decisions demonstrate the power to influence innovation, governance, and sustainable growth.

With diplomatic appointments continuing to strengthen international partnerships, Israel has appointed veteran diplomat Vivian Aisen as its new Ambassador to Colombia, a move aimed at revitalizing bilateral relations and expanding engagement across Latin America. With extensive diplomatic experience, including serving as Israel's ambassador to North Macedonia and heading the Foreign Ministry's Central America Department, Vivian will focus on deepening political, economic, trade, and cultural cooperation while advancing regional collaboration.

Senior leadership appointments remain consistent as JPMorganChase has recently appointed Sili Jacobson as the Chief Administrative Officer for Home Lending, responsible for strategy and administration in one of the company’s main business units. With over three decades of experience in financial services, technology change, and business operations, Jacobson has been a leader in companies like AIG, Prudential, CoreLogic, and JPMorganChase.

Making waves across Australia's marine and waterfront industries, JLL has appointed Tracy Souris as General Manager –Rozelle Bay, where she will be in charge of leading two of Sydney Harbour's premier recreational boating destinations from 1 September. A seasoned executive with more than 14 years of experience in marina management, waterfront development, and strategic operations, Tracy has also broken barriers as the first female President of the Boating Industry Association (BIA), underscoring her leadership in the sector.

RTK has chosen Zana Spahiu as its new Director General. She comes with vast knowledge in the areas of law, institutional governance, and public broadcasting, having previously held the positions of Head of the Legal Office and Acting Director General. Zana has over 15 years’ experience in the areas of media law, regulation, cultural activities, and intellectual property. Earlier RTK had appointed Zana as Acting Director General in 2024, where she managed operations and exemplified the leadership and management competence that enabled her to be appointed as Director General.

With global companies continuing to invest in inclusive data-driven leadership to accelerate digital innovation, Pernod Ricard has named Caroline Connan as Chief Data Officer, entrusting her with leading the company's enterprise-wide Data and AI strategy. She will oversee global initiatives to strengthen data governance, advance analytics capabilities, and unlock greater business value through artificial intelligence, supporting the company's broader digital transformation ambitions.

Building Stronger Business Ecosystems 

New business networks and leadership programs have been fostering inclusive growth through collaboration in different sectors for women entrepreneurs.

Strategic collaboration gained importance in supporting innovation led by women as Korean Women Entrepreneurs Association (KWEA) and Hanwha General Insurance signed a memorandum of understanding to fast-track the development of the South Korea’s Femtech industry and increase the competitiveness of businesses run by women. This agreement was signed at Hanwha's Seoul head office and includes collaboration in offering support to the femtech startups through financial, mentoring, and international business opportunities, as well as women-centered finance, health, and entrepreneurship activities.

China Enterprises Chamber of Commerce in Malaysia (CECCM) has introduced Women Entrepreneurs Committee to enhance professional networking, leadership development, and strategic partnerships between Chinese and Malaysian businesses. Comprising more than 30 founding member companies and led initially by ICBC Malaysia, the committee will support innovation, international cooperation, and women-led business growth while reinforcing the broader China–Malaysia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

According to the recent Gender Thematic Report conducted by Rwanda for the year 2023, based on the 2023 Establishment Census, there has been a growth of 39.9 percent in the number of women-managed firms from 32.6 percent in 2017. The study was conducted by the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR). In addition, there has been rapid growth in women-owned firms compared to male-owned ones, which has risen from 60,786 in 2017 to 104,316 in 2023.

Cindy Hill Finnie, Board Chair of First Fed Bank and First Northwest Bancorp, has earned a place on the list of 2026 Directors of the Year from the Puget Sound Business Journal for her excellent contributions in the field of governance, strategic leadership, and community stewardship. As the first female Chair of the board of directors in more than 100 years of the company's existence, she spearheaded many initiatives such as succession planning, expansion across regions, better governance structures, and strategic thinking for sustainable development.

Historic Milestones and Leadership Breakthroughs

More historic firsts continue to demonstrate women's increasing global influence through significant changes in academia, governance, sports, and other public institutions.

Oghenetega Ighedo made history recently when she became the first black woman to get a PhD in pure Mathematics at the University of South Africa (UNISA). The Nigerian mathematician and associate professor earned the coveted title in just three years despite balancing family and academic life. This success is not only an indication of dedication but also sets a record in black women in mathematics and science research.

The involvement of women in the field of political leadership keeps on breaking records as Algeria made history by electing Khalida Boufedeche as the first woman speaker in Algeria's parliament of the People's National Assembly (APN). The physician turned politician, who was elected on 302 votes in the parliamentary election, belongs to the National Liberation Front (FLN). It is seen as a turning point for women's participation in Algeria's most powerful government institutions.

Rachel Lewis has now created history by becoming the first-ever woman who will chair the Board at Essex County Cricket Club in over 150 years of the club’s existence. Being an Olympian and a successful sports administrator, Rachel replaces Jason Gallian and comes with a wealth of experience of running community cricket projects. The union of her high-performance sporting background and leadership skills is bound to aid the club in its governance and future growth.

Leadership achievements have opened new doors for women in public service. Genesis C. Arias has been appointed as the first-ever woman to hold the office of Sheriff of Luzerne County and the first Hispanic woman to occupy the office of county Sheriff in the State of Pennsylvania. With years of experience in military and public services, Arias has sworn to work hard for the people with the responsibility of managing law enforcement tasks such as providing security in the court house, transporting inmates, and firearms licensing among others.

Empowerment, Health and Sporting Excellence

Global collaborations continue to create stronger opportunities and pathways for women's advancement.

The BRIDGE Program at Coppin State University has launched its second group of entrepreneurs with an eight-week program aimed at enhancing leadership skills, increasing financial readiness, and helping women entrepreneurs obtain financing options. The program is scheduled to run from September 16 to November 4, 2026 and will be capped off by financial action plans presentations by the participating entrepreneurs.

In an endeavor to foster cross-border partnerships, the Daffodil International University, in collaboration with the UAE Embassy in Bangladesh, organized a seminar that discussed issues of women empowerment in a changing world. The seminar took place on July 28 at Daffodil Smart City, and issues such as leadership, innovations, entrepreneurship, and women's participation in global development were the main topics for discussion. In his speech at the seminar, the UAE ambassador to Bangladesh Abdullah Ali Al Hamoudi highlighted the importance of women empowerment in the country.

New research findings on the international stage have pointed to the increased need to raise awareness about the importance of health among women in middle age. A study, ‘Menopause: The Journal of the North American Menopause Society,’ showcased that women who were going through perimenopause exhibited a much higher level of psychological distress compared to those who had not entered menopause, scoring more than 1.5 times above the latter group. The Mayo Clinic and Flo Health study based on data from 7,975 women in 20 countries showed exhaustion to be the main symptom of the condition, along with high anxiety, irritability, and depression.

Historic sporting achievements continue to inspire the next generation of athletes. Irene Jane Henry, a Malaysian weightlifter in the category of women’s 48kg, won a bronze medal during the Commonwealth Games and became the first Malaysian woman weightlifter for the last 16 years who managed to get onto the winners' dais. Participating in the Commonwealth Games for the first time in her life, the 21-year-old weightlifter showed the total lifting weight of 167kg and set up new national records of 77kg for the snatch and 90kg for the clean and jerk.
