RTK appoints Zana Spahiu as Director General

RTK has named Zana Spahiu as a new Director General, marking a significant leadership milestone for Kosovo's public broadcaster. With over ten years of experience in the public media and legal administration sector, Zana has actively supported RTK's institutional development by providing legal expertise and regulatory guidance, as well as strategic leadership.

Her appointment reflects RTK's confidence in her long-standing service and deep institutional knowledge while highlighting the growing representation of women in senior leadership positions across the public media sector. With various leadership experiences in the organization, Zana will also bring continuity, governance experience and an understanding of the changing media landscape.

Zana was admitted to RTK's Legal Office in 2010, handling legal issues and offering regulatory assistance. Throughout the years, she contributed significantly to the compliance, governance and administration of the institution and to its recommendations on important regulatory matters.

In 2022, she was elevated to Head of the Legal Office and was given expanded duties to enhance the legal procedures, to offer strategic legal advice, and to assist executive decision making. Her leadership helped to enhance the institution's governance and administrative efficiency, as well as its legal structure.

Given her institutional experience and leadership skills, RTK appointed Zana as Acting Director General in 2024. In this position, she managed the operations of the organisation during a transitional phase, and exemplified the leadership and management competence that enabled her to be appointed as Director General.

In addition to her RTK experience, Zana has gained a wealth of experience in the creative and cultural sectors. She has represented the film industry and audiovisual works in matters of copyright and intellectual property, artistic contracts, and media law. Her multi-disciplinary background gives her the legal knowledge and understanding of the creative industries which is a highly relevant tool for today's public media organisations.

Zana is a Bachelor's degree in Law from the University of Prishtina, where she laid the groundwork for her legal career. She has always, throughout her career, been a figure of both legal and institutional leadership, thus making a contribution to better standards of governance and effective administration.

She has also contributed to the development of inter-institutional cooperation, the optimisation of administrative processes and creative and cultural projects in the public media sector. She has contributed to fostering collaboration between institutions and to furthering projects to support Kosovo's cultural and media ecosystem.

Zana will be expected to be instrumental in the development of RTK as Director General and in consolidating transparency, good governance and public service values. Her nomination is a significant move for RTK as well as for the influence of women leaders in the future of public institutions. Having a broad and deep legal background, as well as experience as an executive and the desire to build a great organization, Zana is ready to take the broadcaster into its next chapter of growth and development.
