The Youth for Development Network (YFDN), in collaboration with Think Human Fund, has supported women entrepreneurs in Hanover with hurricane relief grants and humanitarian aid totaling over $630,000 in response to Hurricane Melissa.
According to organizers, the aid is to be channeled as disaster relief to firms owned by women that offer critical commodities and services like health products, natural juices, and personal care products to communities.
Apart from these grants being issued to the affected families, care packages that contain food, water, as well as basic supplies were issued to children and families in the communities that were affected by the hurricane.
“The program was all about supporting the recovery of the businesses and the immediate needs of the families,” said Andre Wilson, the founder and executive director of YFDN.
The support was presented via the “Gifts That Give Back” campaign, which works to solve two issues simultaneously because it allows the woman entrepreneurs to prelaunch the business while ensuring the needy families get the necessary products and services from the businesses.
The project is in line with YFDN’s Valuing Our Women (VOW) program, which concentrates on women’s economic empowerment and ultimately translates to community resilience. The event was sponsored by The Syensqo Fund, the Hanover Chamber of Commerce, and other stakeholders in the community.
