Governor Mike Kehoe announced Tuesday the appointment of Catherine L. Hanaway as Missouri’s next Attorney General, following Andrew Bailey’s selection as Co-Deputy Director of the FBI.
Catherine, a former U.S. Attorney and the sole woman in Missouri state history to hold the position of Speaker of the Missouri House of Representatives, will take office on September 8, 2025, and will be the state's first female Attorney General.
"Catherine is a skilled, respected prosecutor who is dedicated to upholding the rule of law," Governor Mike added. "There is no one more capable of representing Missourians as our 45th Attorney General."
Catherine is now a Partner at Husch Blackwell in St. Louis, where she had previously become the firm's first woman Chair. As U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Missouri, she managed over 4,000 criminal and civil cases and developed new prosecution methods.
Looking back on her appointment, Catherine stated, "To go from a town of 639 individuals to standing in the governor's office and receiving this appointment is absolutely humbling.
I am looking forward to getting to work on behalf of Missourians to uphold the rule of law, protect the Constitution, and provide a solid future for our state."
Governor also commended Andrew's federal appointment as "a testament to President Trump's commitment to law and order." He will be sworn into his new FBI position on September 8.
Catherine has a Juris Doctor from The Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts from Creighton University.
She resides in St. Louis with her husband and is still very much involved in community organizations such as the Regional Business Council and the Board of the St. Louis Regional Crime Commission.
