The UAE has established a joint strategy to empower women to overcome challenges, generate opportunities for them, and get women ready to lead in all sectors. This has increased the competitiveness of the nation on both a regional and global scale.
Key national institutions, like the UAE Gender Balance Council and Dubai Women Establishment as well as global institutions, are leading initiatives to advance Emirati women's leadership and pushing them into the top jobs in public and private sector.
Mouza Mohammed Al Ghuwais Al Suwaidi, Secretary-General of the UAE Gender Balance Council, told holding, Emirates News Agency (WAM), that the Council is working to increase awareness and support for greater participation and representation by women in the private sector, as well as their access to leadership positions.
She noticed that the Council is developing and building through specific strategies and an inclusive environment that has been designed with strategic partners.
She also pointed out that some UAE national and international businesses have committed to the "SDG 5 Pledge to Accelerate Women's Leadership in the UAE Private Sector."
Companies committed voluntarily to increasing women's participation in middle and senior management to a minimum of 30 percent by 2025 for the initial group, and by 2028 for the new joined group.
The UAE Gender Balance Council Strategy 2026 also aims to narrow gender disparities across all industries, advance the UAE's rank globally in the gender equality tables, and advance the country as a gender balance legislation model.
With these efforts, the UAE was ranked number one regionally and 13 globally in the UNDP's 2025 Gender Inequality Index.
Naeema Ahli, Dubai Women Establishment CEO, further stated that to bring Emirati women into leadership positions is at the core of the organisation's mission.
The organisation goes on to create more sophisticated training programmes to enhance women's leadership skills across industries and to groom them for top roles in global organisations.
These programmes, developed alongside global universities and institutions, not only impart state-of-the-art knowledge of leadership but also enable women to adapt to changing workplace dynamics and enhance their confidence in decision-making.
