Johns Hopkins Medicine (JHM) officially has appointed Sarah Johnson Conway, M.D. as the permanent Senior Vice President of the Office of Johns Hopkins Physicians (OJHP) and Physician Group Practice, overseeing both Johns Hopkins Medicine and the Johns Hopkins Health System. Dr. Conway assumed the role on an interim basis in November 2023, and now she permanently assumes the role.

Recognized by her facilitative approach to leadership, strategic ability at physician alignment and uncompromising commitment to value-based care and community health, Dr. Sarah is bringing a unique blend of clinical insight and operational experience to the role. Kevin Sowers, M.S.N., R.N., F.A.A.N., the executive vice president of Johns Hopkins Medicine and president of the Johns Hopkins Health System, pointed out her enthusiasm to propel the physician enterprise forward, noting her record of bridging clinical care with system-level strategy.

With Dr. Rick Redett, JHM physician-in-chief, and President Sowers, Sarah will oversee the strategic planning of JHM clinical practices, both employed and affiliated physicians. Her responsibility will include direct management of all Johns Hopkins Health System physician organizations such as Johns Hopkins Community Physicians, Regional Physicians, Personalized Care, and the Johns Hopkins Clinical Alliance. She will also be President of the Johns Hopkins Medical Management Corporation, and collaborate closely with the physician-in-chief on the faculty practice plan.

Sarah has a distinct blend of clinical practice and financial expertise in her career. Having graduated cum laude from Harvard University with an economics degree and beginning her career at Goldman Sachs as an investment banking analyst, she went on to receive her M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania. She continued with her internal medicine residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in the renowned Osler program and later completed a fellowship in health systems management. She is now a member of the Johns Hopkins faculty as an assistant professor of medicine and has been a dedicated hospitalist at The Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Her work has contributed greatly to the driving of significant care delivery innovation. She led JHM's introduction of clinically integrated network and currently serves as its chief medical officer. As the inaugural president of Johns Hopkins Personalized Care, she also contributed significantly to the expansion of the organization on a regional scale, leading successful practice integrations and facilitating expansion into Northern Virginia.

A strong advocate for advancing women in health leadership, she is an alumnus of the Carol Emmott Fellowship and a Rising Star as designated by both Modern Healthcare and Becker's Hospital Review. The appointment demonstrates continued dedication to coordinated, patient-centered care and strong physician leadership across the Johns Hopkins system.
