The Europe cosmetics industry is estimated to be worth USD 111.3 billion in 2025 and grow to USD 138.7 billion by 2034, growing at a CAGR of 2.5 percent from 2026 to 2034.

Market growth can largely be attributed to the rising consumer demand for premium beauty goods and eco-friendly beauty items, increasing usage of skin care routines and rising usage of digital beauty stores.

In addition, market growth is also fueled by an increase in demand for custom products and clean label cosmetics. In 2025, skin care and sun care products represent a combined total of 33 percent of the European cosmetics marketplace with growing awareness as more people learn how to properly take care of their skin and protect from the sun.

Conventional products are currently dominating the market, at an estimated 80 percent market share of cosmetics, driven by consumer acceptance, availability and low price.

Women are projected to continue to dominate the European market through 2025 at 58 percent of the market share primarily due to skin care and cosmetics usage. Supermarkets and hypermarkets will account for the largest proportion of distribution channels at 32 percent.

The primary causes of growth for beauty products are the fact that consumers are placing more emphasis on skin care and personal wellness, as consumers are also starting to see cosmetics more as part of their overall health and personal care.

Brands such as Oriflame are now developing products aimed at personal wellness that are customized; furthermore, due to the development of preventive skin care aimed at younger users, frequency of using product has increased.

This is also due to the growing number of digital retail and E-Commerce platforms, with the European E-Commerce market projected to grow from USD 3.96 trillion to upward of USD 8.46 trillion between 2024 and 2033. Growth in Virtual Try-On Technologies and Social Commerce is continuing to drive this growth.

There has also been an increasing need for beauty products to be inclusive and diverse, with European consumers looking for products that meet the needs of many different skin tones, types and cultures.

This has resulted in a wider range of shades and formulations available to consumers with various skin issues, along with consumers becoming increasingly interested in Gender Neutral and Male Centric grooming products.

Region-wise, Germany is an important market, famous for personal care expenditure and a demand for quality products.

The strong beauty tradition and luxury cosmetics segment of France also make it an important market, while the United Kingdom is the leader in e-commerce and clean beauty.

Italy is known for its artisanal product formulations, while the Spanish market is witnessing growth due to increasing awareness about skincare. The latest trend in the market is the entry of Zalando in Spain and Portugal, expanding its foothold in Southern Europe with skincare, makeup, hair care, and fragrances.
