The Greece's Ministry of Tourism as a way to recognize all women in the tourism industry that have made significant contributions to the growth of tourism and hospitality throughout history; International Women's Day was used as a day to bring attention to the many ways that women have played integral roles in shaping tourism in Greece today.

The purpose of this event is twofold: to highlight how women have made an impact in Greece's tourism and hospitality sectors by recognizing their contributions and by showing that sustainable development and its effects on society are also important for the continued growth of the tourism and hospitality industries as gender equality will help promote and ensure these industries remain viable.

Olga Kefalogianni, Minister of Tourism for Greece, spoke about how important it is for all people to work toward achieving gender equality within the workplace; specifically, how this relates directly to the hospitality and tourism industries.

Olga stressed how significant inclusive tourism is. Specifically, she highlighted the impacts on women as well as minorities and underrepresented populations who participate in tourism.

In her opinion, there are multiple advantages associated with developing a rounded out tourism experience where all people benefit.

The goal of giving women ownership interest and leadership roles in the tourism and hospitality industries will enable Greece to achieve inclusive growth by ensuring that all voices are involved in creating a dynamic tourism industry that continues to innovate.

The seminar also offered the chance to discuss how women entrepreneurs are leading the change from an outdated model of tourism to one that is more sustainable.

Women who engage in tourism can be found at the leading edge of developing environmentally friendly tourism services and types of lodging as well as adopting green technologies to support the tourism sector.

Sustainable tourism does not mean that the economic development will take place at the expense of continuing to conserve the environment.

The Greek government is leading and establishing a green tourism sector benefiting both the community and the tourism industry as a whole through their investment in women-owned businesses that promote sustainability and diversity.

The growth of this new and dynamic tourism sector continues on its commitment to both gender equality and sustainability.

To support these values, Greece has created programs including the CapsuleT Accelerator, which the government has pledged to continue supporting with their commitment to promote tourism for the mutual benefit of the entire tourism industry worldwide.

Greece is committed to the advancement of women within tourism and hospitality-related industries; therefore, Greece will have a thriving, sustainable, and resilient tourism sector for many years to come.
