The Home Builders Federation (HBF) is supporting site management placements for women to improve skills and increase the number of women in the construction industry.
The “Women into Home Building” program, which is in its eighth year, partners with national and regional home builders to provide these placements.
Today, only 15 percent of the construction industry and 5 percent of site managers are women. The program seeks to rectify this imbalance by providing a talent pipeline.
With the construction industry facing a need for 239,000 new workers over the next five years to deliver the government’s target of building 1.5 million new homes, the HBF is using this program as a targeted intervention to diversify the industry and future-proof the industry’s talent pipeline.
The program will last for three weeks, with one week of online learning and insight sessions and two weeks of work experience on-site. The women will gain both knowledge and experience. Thanks to the sponsorship by NHBC, the program also offers childcare and travel assistance to the women.
According to Neil Jefferson, Chief Executive of the Home Builders Federation, this initiative will help expand the talent pool and increase awareness of job opportunities within the home building industry. He encourages females to explore and apply for positions with greater placement opportunities in the sector.
The Circle Partnership has recently launched a pilot initiative in Scotland to increase the number of women employed in construction, property and energy sectors.
The initiative has specifically targeted mid-level females working in construction by providing them with support in skill development, networking and confidence to encourage them to stay in the industry and advance their careers.
Ceri Moyers, co-founder of The Circle Partnership, is excited to bring the Circle Academy to Scotland, through the support of female leaders who are eager to mentor participants of the Programme.
The Circle Academy pilot will commence in 2026 with the goal of eliminating barriers to career advancement for women.
The Programme will provide participants with leadership training, access to networking opportunities and provide them with mentorship with experienced female leaders from a variety of industries.
