  • Nigeria has created the Happy Woman App to link women with finance, skills, markets and government support.
  • This is one of the ways the Nigeria for Women Programme is being supported, which is aimed at reaching 25 million women after a pilot that impacted over 1 million.

The Federal Government has unveiled an innovative digital platform aimed at promoting women's economic inclusion while providing avenues for finance, skills, markets, and government backing to a broader range of women in Nigeria. As stated in the Presidency's press release, the programme called Happy Woman App is available for download.

The statement further indicated that it is a sealed digital face developed to link the women of Nigeria to financial services, the skills development programmes, market opportunities, essential services, and other government-funded schemes.

The platform release came after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's declaration of a nationwide rollout of the Nigeria for Women Programme (NFWP) aimed at benefiting 25 million women across the country. Official sources stated that the expansion is based on an initial pilot that was executed in six states where over one million women were reached.

During the launch event at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, President Tinubu who was represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima stated that the development objectives of the country could not be realized if women were not made central to the national planning.

The President stated, “A nation that relegates its women is a nation bound for implosion. We have long understood this truth. That is why this administration has not only placed women at the forefront of decision-making but has also entrusted them with leadership in causes that redeem our national promise.”

He pointed out that women are essential to the progress of Nigeria, noting their contribution in making families stronger, helping communities thrive, and increasing the overall productivity of the nation. President Tinubu referred to the goal of having 25 million women reach as ambitious yet achievable and called on the World Bank to increase its financial, technical and innovation support for the programme's national implementation.
