Nu Mexico has collaborated with Jalisco Secretariat for Economic Development (SEDECO) to introduce an interdisciplinary project concentrating on financial education, digital literacy, and employability through technology. With the collaboration, Nu Mexico provides technology scholarships to 300 women and seeks to enhance women’s involvement in the emerging digital economy of Mexico.
‘Generación Nu,’ the first project of this collaboration, will grant 300 scholarships for technological training to women that are either unemployed or underemployed. This 12-week program includes both technological and employment training with focus on personal financial management. The training program is aimed to help participants become more capable in the modern labor market while gaining better skills management techniques. The application period started on September 21st.
Key Highlights:
Under the Framework Collaboration Agreement, there will be initiatives focusing on three main pillars: financial literacy, digital confidence, and technology employability. This program is meant to enhance economic independence, financial inclusion, and innovation for women.
Besides the skill set building, the collaboration looks to create a holistic concept of public-private collaboration in such sectors as cyber security, digital literacy, financial education, and workforce preparedness.
The collaboration seeks to broaden the agenda beyond access to financial services to financial inclusion and tech education along with women-focused economic development.
"This agreement formalizes a shared vision with the Government of Jalisco to build a more equitable and secure digital economy. Through practical financial education, cybersecurity, and technology training, we seek to democratize opportunities and provide women in Jalisco with real tools for their economic autonomy," Romina Benvenuti, Nu Mexico’s Director of Public, Regulatory, and Legal Affairs commented.
Nu Mexico is a Mexican subsidiary of Nubank and has become an influential entity in Mexico’s digital banking and fintech industry. It presently has about 16 million clients, equal to approximately 15% of adults in Mexico. According to their data, their system offered its clients a first credit card in 54% of cases, and 60% of them reported that they saved money after becoming a customer of the bank. This helps the firm to offer affordable financial services to people while promoting financial inclusion and digitization in the country.
SEDECO, a Government agency of Jalisco, aims to promote economic development, investments, innovations, and business development in the state. In addition, the agency facilitates efforts that improve Jalisco’s competitiveness in Mexico’s digital economy and tech industries.
Partnering with fintech firms will help solve challenges such as the gender gap in technology and poor financial inclusiveness of underprivileged populations.
This program is indicative of a wider trend in the fintech industry, with organizations shifting their gaze from just acquiring customers to strengthening the broader digital finance ecosystem. Such programs highlight the importance of social impact, workforce development, and digital inclusion along with customer growth and transaction volumes.
Traditional banks and neobanks now operate in an environment where technology capabilities of employees and overall financial capability are tied together for long-term market participation. The success of the program is contingent on employment rate and workforce development.
