She Codes Africa's Digital Literacy Program Trains 200 Women

She Codes Africa, a non- governmental organisation has trained more than 200 women in Ibadan through the digital literacy programme. The objective of training these women is to overcome the existing literacy gap and improve women’s access to education, jobs & entrepreneurship. Sponsored by HP, the She Code Africa training was held at the Atanda, CBT centre, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Maryam Okoye, the Programme Associate of She Code Africa, spoke about the training and its intended impact on the women. She stated that the training kept its focus on teaching the women use of computers. Basic digital skills such we operation of smartphones, using the internet etc were also focused on. Additionally, the program taught women about online safety, and practical tech usage for school, work, and business.

Maryam highlighted that the digital literacy program had participants ranging from 16 to 35 years of age. Most of the participants also hailed from the economically weaker section of the society. Participants of the digital literacy initiative sponsored by HP showed their gratitude to She Code Africa while highlighting how the initiative has been educating and helpful for the participants.

The She Code Africa’s two-week long digital literacy focused initiative also partnered with Oyo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Women SafeHouse Sustenance Initiative.
