The women-centric leadership and mentorship platform, called Chalom Hights, marked the beginning of its operations with the announcement of the empowerment initiative called PowerSide, targeted at enhancing the leadership depth for young women professionals in the Ghanaian business environment. This was done at the Airport View Event Center in Accra, Ghana.
The program consisted of structured mentorship sessions and panel discussions, reflecting the growing interest of the private sector in issues related to skills development and leadership preparedness, and gender differences that affect professional progression.
The organisation said the initiative was intended to achieve two objectives: “Firstly, we wanted to commemorate our one-year anniversary and secondly, link young women with accomplished individuals from different fields.”
It was designed around three different themes, namely power, purpose, and presence. The discussions surrounding confidence building, intentional career planning, and creating presence in personal and professional settings took center stage.
The various panelists, held in different leadership positions across different industries, gave insights into managing power, navigating different career changes, and creating presence in a predominantly male-dominated field.
Although, as before, the spotlight was on personal professional development, mention of the economic environment, where it was suggested that more women in leadership positions can lead to organizational success, was made.
Chalom Hights explained that PowerSide will be a foundation upon which other initiatives, which include mentorship programs, leadership masterclasses, and skill-based initiatives, will be built to achieve career outcomes.
Rita Adu Boateng, the founder, indicated that the aim of the organisation was to develop a system that offers mentorship, unlike motivational talks.
Moreover, as Ghana's private sector continues to navigate a number of issues that plague young adult development and inclusion, leadership succession, and so forth, PowerSide-style movements demonstrate an emerging desire for different forms of alternative training that reach beyond corporate training and education.
The goal for Chalom Hights by achieving the first-year milestone is to highlight mentorship as a vital entity for leadership development.
