UK-France AI Partnership to Advance Women's Health Research

By: Global Woman Leader Team | Tuesday, 2 June 2026

The United Kingdom and France have announced a landmark Artificial Intelligence (AI) partnership, to advance research on women’s health conditions and contagious diseases, bringing together two of Europe’s leading supercomputing hubs to drive scientific breakthroughs.

The collaboration, unveiled as UK ministers arrived in Paris for talks with G7 counterparts, will try to tackle health problems that are often overlooked or not really diagnosed enough. These conditions affect millions of people globally, and scientists from both countries will put together AI resources, shared data, and advanced computing capabilities to craft new treatments. In the end they want better patient outcomes, rather than just good ideas on paper.

A key focus for the partnership will be women health topics, especially endometriosis and the complications that can show up after childbirth. Even though millions of women worldwide are affected, these issues still often don’t have proper treatments, and they remain kind of under examined. Researchers are hopeful that AI driven analysis, can help reveal new therapy paths, assist with earlier recognition, and allow more tailored healthcare decisions.

Key highlights:

  • AI to improve diagnosis and treatment of women’s conditions
  • Supercomputing resources shared across leading UK and French centers
  • Joint efforts target infectious diseases and drug-resistant microbes

In addition to pushing women’s healthcare forward, this partnership will also help to improve women's health, while also contributing to the fight against infectious diseases. AI will be used to monitor drug resistant microbes, such as E. coli, leading to faster detection of outbreaks by researchers across the globe and before the epidemic can escalate.

UK Science and Technology Secretary Liz Kendall highlighted the significance of the agreement, stating: “This ground-breaking partnership between the UK and France will tackle some of the biggest challenges in women’s health, deliver safer and healthier pregnancies, and accelerate the fight against infectious diseases worldwide. That means new treatments, earlier diagnoses, and more personalised care.”

She added: “We are determined to build on that spirit of co-operation with our G7 partners this week, to drive forward work on some of the most important issues that affect us all, from AI adoption to keeping kids safe online.”

In order to make sure that the initiative succeeds, the British Government has pledged more than £850,000 to enhance collaboration between the Bristol Centre for Supercomputing, where Isambard-AI operates, and GENCI, the French national computing center. The funds will ensure that scientists will be able to use cutting-edge technology in their efforts to make breakthroughs in medicine and other science-related disciplines. Isambard-AI is already involved in several projects, among others related to drug discovery for heart disease and climate scenario forecasting.

Also, Imperial College London and the French National Center for Scientific Research are going to sign a historic deal concerning metabolism studies focused on such serious illnesses as heart disease, cancer, and neurodegenerative disorders.

These moves together suggest a noteworthy step toward using AI along with international teamwork, in order to tackle some of the toughest health concerns we face globally.
