  • 32 selected companies were assisted in opening online shops on Alibaba.com for cross-border exports

More than 200 women-led enterprises in Vietnam have been trained to enhance their capacity in e-commerce, logistics, and international payment systems.

Besides that, 32 selected businesses were supported in setting up online storefronts on Alibaba.com, marking their entrance into cross-border trade.

These details were shared at a workshop held in Hanoi on November 10 to review the project “Promote Exports to EU Markets through E-Commerce for Women-owned Businesses in Vietnam.”

The Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency - Vietrade, the SheTrades Hub of the International Trade Centre - ITC, and the Embassy of the Netherlands in Vietnam cooperatively organized the event.

Joining the workshop, Hoang Minh Chien, Deputy Director of Vietrade, said first of all, Vietrade and the SheTrades initiative of ITC have worked together for a long time in order to advance inclusive trade, empower women entrepreneurship, and enhance the role of small and medium-sized business in the digital economy.

The project, funded by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency - RVO and the Dutch Embassy, was launched in November 2024 to support women-led businesses in accessing export markets to Europe using platforms, such as Alibaba.com.

Hoang elaborated that international trade must acclimatize to digital transformation and e-commerce, as these have become the essential aspects of trade and new sustainable opportunities for international markets for SMEss, particularly woman-owned enterprises.

He stated he was proud of the female entrepreneurs from various provinces in Vietnam (Vinh Long, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Bac Ninh, Thai Nguyen) that were engaged and utilizing digital technology to be able to engage in the emerging e-commerce space in Vietnam.

Chien also stated that while these projects were complete, efforts to enhance digital capacity among women entrepreneurs would not end.

Vietrade further intends to work with RVO, the Dutch Embassy, ITC SheTrades, and other partners to scale up training, networking, and export promotion programmes, particularly in industries like agriculture, processed foods, consumer goods, and handicrafts, where women-led firms have great potential for growth in the European market.

ITC SheTrades Project Manager Muriel Tombrink said that the initiative was intended to equip Vietnamese women entrepreneurs with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to help them succeed in cross-border e-commerce, as well as build an inclusive and sustainable digital trade ecosystem to encourage women-owned businesses in taking up leadership roles.

In total, over 600 women-owned businesses participated in the activities of the project. Partner organizations also strengthened their capacity to support women in digital commerce, and collectively the 32 businesses had a combined total of over 455,000 buyer searches and 85,000 page views from June - September 2025, which showed increased visibility and engagement in the global e-commerce marketplace.
