By: GWL Team | Wednesday, 29 April 2026

  • By 2030-31, Brighton and Hove Albion plan to establish the first women's football-specific stadium in Europe
  • Location to be close to the AMEX Stadium
  • This 10000-seat venue will be equipped with cutting-edge facilities tailored specifically for women's football

Brighton & Hove Albion will make history by building Europe's first stadium dedicated solely to women's football. The 10000-capacity venue, expected to be ready for the 2030-2031 season, will be located next to the club's current AMEX Stadium.

The stadium will be equipped with gender-specific amenities and the club functional areas, such as women's team locker rooms and family-friendly lounges designed to attract fresh audiences.

The initiative along with other ones recently announced has been characterized as a revolutionary change in women's football. The club CEO Paul Barber remarked that it is "a bold declaration of our aspirations." More importantly, he stated that it will be a major tool to generate even more interest in women's and girls' football not only in the UK but worldwide.

Speaking to The Guardian, ex-Brighton player and England international Fran Kirby called the initiative "revolutionary." She believes it is a step that player communities have been dreaming of for a long time. According to her, a stadium is a physical representation of a professional setting that will assist women's football in thriving not just on the pitch but also in the surrounding areas.

Brighton is now one of the handful of clubs throwing their weight behind the construction of a women's football only stadium. The Kansas City Current unveiled a similar venue in 2024, while the Denver Summit is scheduled to follow suit in 2028.

The stadium is anticipated to have a powerful economic effect, generating local employment in construction and training and at the same time consolidating Brighton's role as a center for development of women's football. It is a move from mere symbolic endorsement into real structural investment in women's football over a long time.
