Capgemini is launching at this year's Women's Rugby World Cup a generative AI solution, TryZone IQ, to heighten engagement with spectators and offer more deep commentary.
The solution collates player performance, team, and match statistics data, providing real-time insights to broadcast, social, and digital media.
Crafted together with World Rugby and Opta, TryZone IQ transforms raw data into short text summaries that make matches more accessible to new and old fans alike.
It is the first time generative AI has been applied at a Rugby World Cup and comes as demand for digital solutions to improve sports watching continues to grow, with 67 percent of fans wanting one platform to consume match content according to Capgemini.
The system is designed to complement human analysts, who retain control over which insights are shared.
Capgemini’s U.K. Chief Technology and Innovation Officer, Steven Webb, said the initiative aims to make the game more engaging for a wider audience by bringing real-time stories, context, and clarity to fans. Two new visual features will also debut:
Expected Tries – showing the difference between try-scoring opportunities created and those converted.
Attacking Threat – highlighting which team has the advantage using data on possession, territory, and momentum.
This launch follows Capgemini’s broader involvement in sports technology, including its role as Official Technology Partner for 14 international cycling events such as the Tour de France and Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift.
