Fast Retailing has announced that Australian actress Cate Blanchett has been named global ambassador of its Uniqlo brand.

The Japanese retail conglomerate announced that the Academy Award, BAFTA, and Golden Globe-winning actress will work with the company to advance its LifeWear philosophy—dedication to excellence, humanitarianism, next-generation support, and contributing positively to society.

"Cate is among the finest actors of her generation, both on stage and screen. But our appreciation extends far beyond entertainment," stated Tadashi Yanai, founder and chairman of Uniqlo, president and CEO of Fast Retailing.

"Her fire and dedication come through in her guidance of up-and-coming talent, her influence as a role model for women, and her ongoing commitment to humanitarian and environmental issues. By joining forces, we hope to make real, positive difference in the world."

The Japanese company based in Tokyo continued to state that more information regarding the 56-year-old being an ambassador will be released.

Cate was born and raised in Melbourne in 1969. She is internationally renowned for her stage and screen performances in films like Tár, Carol, The Aviator, Blue Jasmine, and Elizabeth, among Broadway and London's West End stage performances.

Cate has also been co-CEO and co-artistic director of Sydney Theatre Company and the co-founder of Dirty Films, the producing company.

Aside from her acting career, Cate is actively involved in international advocacy. She is a UNHCR goodwill ambassador, a member of the Earthshot Prize Council, and an inaugural ambassador of Wakehurst's Millennium Seed Bank.

She also donates to cultural institutions such as the UK's National Theatre, the Sydney Film Festival, and the NIDA Foundation.

"I am thrilled to be sharing Uniqlo's vision for enriching life with LifeWear—fashion that holds reverrence for traditional design, simplicity, quality, and affordability," Cate said.

"I am attracted to the possible to support its purpose: enabling the next generation, solving global displacement, giving back to society, and striving towards a more equitable world.

And on top of all this else, creative re-imagining alongside Clare Waight Keller and working with fellow ambassador Roger Federer is a joy pure and simple."

At the same time, Fast Retailing posted lower-than-expected earnings in its July trading update.

Operating profit for the three months to May was ¥146.7 billion ($1 billion), short of analysts' expectation of ¥150 billion, as slower sales in China dragged on results. Net income for the quarter was ¥105.5 billion.
