Kerry Bommarito, Vice President of Enterprise AI and Decision Intelligence at Mercy, has been named to Becker's Hospital Review's annual “Women in Health IT to Know” list for the third consecutive year. Each year, the annual recognition showcases 170 women leaders across the United States who are driving the future of health care technology by innovating, making health care safer, more effective and more accessible.
Kerry’s ongoing recognition highlights her impactful trajectory in supporting the responsible adoption of AI in one of the country’s largest health systems. She has a significant role at Mercy in shaping the thoughtful use of AI to assist caregivers and enhance patient care.
Key highlights:
Under Kerry’s leadership, Mercy has created over a dozen real-time predictive and decision support models, all of which are directly embedded into electronic health records. The tools deliver timely, actionable information to clinicians at the point of care, aiding in making better decisions at critical clinical moments.
She was also the lead for the implementation of Mercy's first comprehensive AI application that was built specifically for nurses. The solution facilitates transition for patients from Emergency Department to hospital stay. The system has produced over 130,000 summaries to date, which has made a difference in reducing administrative burden, improving communication and better continuity of care during transition periods.
In addition to her internal duties, Kerry is actively working on initiatives at the national level aimed at fostering safe, fair, and trustworthy AI use in the healthcare sector. As a member of the Coalition for Health AI, she is contributing to the development of industry standards and frameworks for responsible use of AI technologies in clinical settings.
“This Becker's accolade is a testament to the influence of leaders and Mercy's dedication to technology as a means to assist patients and caregivers.”
