New Zealand has revealed that top all-rounder Suzie Bates is set to retire from international cricket after the ICC Women's T20 World Cup in 2026.
Suzie has decided to call time on her international career after the upcoming ICC Women's T20 World Cup in England, ending a fantastic cricketing journey of 362 matches for New Zealand.
Looking back on her marvelous career, Suzie shared with New Zealand Cricket, "When I look back on the past twenty-plus years, I can't quite believe how quickly the time has gone. I'm immensely proud to have worn the fern so many times, and I've been filled with enormous purpose and joy in striving each day to be a better person, teammate, cricketer, and athlete for this team. Words can't truly express my gratitude to all my teammates and coaches along the way. I have one final mission: to head to the UK - a place that holds so many special memories for me - and win another World Cup."
Suzie has hit an amazing total of 14 centuries in all formats combined and also grabbed 145 wickets. This all-rounder will leave the sport with perhaps the best career record in terms of achievements among recent players as she has regularly been at the top level of form for her country since making her debut against India in Lincoln in 2006.
At the time of retirement, Suzie will stand at the top of the list of New Zealand's all-time highest run-scorers in international cricket. Besides Meg Lanning from Australia who has 15 centuries and India opener Smriti Mandhana who also has 14, no other player has more ODI centuries than the 13 that Bates has scored in 50-over cricket.
