Scania México, in collaboration with the German Agency for International Cooperation GIZ in Mexico, has introduced “Técnicas del Futuro” (Technicians of the Future), the first structured technical training program exclusively for women in Mexico’s heavy transport and commercial vehicle sector. The initiative expands the “Mujeres Conduciendo el Cambio” (Women Driving Change) program, strengthening gender inclusion while preparing a skilled workforce for electrification, advanced diagnostics, and sustainable mobility transformation.
The program is supported through Germany’s DeveloPPP initiative, implemented by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), with operational support from Pro Sociedad and the technical institution Grupo CEDVA. It brings together industry, development agencies, and education providers to strengthen long-term workforce pipelines in the transport sector.
The inaugural cohort consists of nine women studying at the Centro Educativo Grupo CEDVA in the town of Tlalnepantla de Baz, State of Mexico. The training takes place in a workshop environment, where the participants will get hands-on experience of real-life heavy vehicle systems, working in a Scania equipped workshop. The six-month program is divided into two phases: two months of classroom-based theoretical and practical training followed by a four-month supervised apprenticeship under Scania technical experts in real operational environments.
Key Highlights:
The curriculum includes 32 structured modules; seven are in the area of basic automotive mechanics, diagnostics and technical repair skills, and the other 25 focus on professional development, workplace readiness, communication, and career building skills. The newly created introductory electromobility module equips participants with the knowledge necessary to meet the increasing demand for electric and hybrid commercial vehicles, whilst the socio-emotional training helps to build resilience, teamwork and retention in a traditionally male dominated industry.
Beyond technical training, the program builds a structured employment pipeline. After completion, all nine participants will receive individualized career development plans. Scania México, together with Pro Sociedad and industry partners, will support their placement in technical roles across transport and logistics companies in Mexico and the wider region.
Johanna Wysluch, Director of the Cities and Transport Project at GIZ, highlighted the importance of diversity in the sector: “At GIZ, we celebrate initiatives like these because the future of transport will depend on its ability to attract, develop, and leverage diverse talent.”
Scania México President and CEO Alejandro Mondragón highlighted the program’s alignment with industry transformation. “Transport is evolving toward more advanced technologies, including electric vehicles, specialized diagnostic systems, and increasingly sustainable solutions,” he said. “Técnicas del Futuro is not only about preparing participants as future professionals, but also about positioning them as leaders of a new era for the industry.”
Ana Laura Islas, Manager of People Business Partners at Scania México, reinforced the program’s long-term vision. “Técnicas del Futuro reflects our conviction that the transport industry needs female talent—not as a symbolic gesture, but as a genuine commitment to the competitiveness and transformation of the sector,” she said.
The initiative represents a strategic step toward inclusive industrial transformation, aligning technical education with sustainability goals, digital innovation, and gender equity in Mexico’s evolving heavy transport ecosystem.
