The Sri Lanka Institute of Directors (SLID) has opened the third intake of its highly-respected "Women in Leadership" programme, starting on 31 July. Conceived to meet increasing demand for diversity in leadership along gender lines, the six-month program aims to prepare second-tier women executives with the knowledge and confidence to move up to board-level positions.
With a special blend of training, mentoring, and sponsorship, participants will receive four one-on-one mentor sessions with seasoned board directors, a one-day intensive leadership workshop specifically designed for women, career development coaching, internal sponsorship, and access to SLID's Women Directors Forum and other members' benefits. In addition, they will have a certificate of completion and inclusion in SLID's esteemed Directory of Women Directors and Board-Ready Women.
As mentioned by Nadija Tambiah, Chair of the SLID Women Directors Forum, the program offers great insights into managing boardroom relationships, creating a personal brand, and gaining a healthy work-life balance. She further highlighted the wider organisational advantages, adding that research has established that sound female board representation is associated with enhanced financial performance, shareholder value, and risk management.
SLID Chairperson Aroshi Nanayakkara further added that enabling female leadership is not only a moral and strategic imperative but also considering the recent trends in migration and the large pool of educated Sri Lankan women. With a mere 25 places and a program fee of Rs. 150,000, SLID invites companies to send their future female leaders and invest in the corporate leaders of tomorrow.
