Under the national GROW project, more than 1000 female entrepreneurs have undertaken business skills training in Kapchorwa District. This project is a government program which is aimed towards empowering women within Uganda, specifically in rural Uganda.
The training was formed in collaboration with Enterprise Uganda, keeping it’s aim at empowering women with critical skills to build their business and run resources effectively.
The Eastern Region Regional Project Officer Moses Buwudhwike explained that the GROW project is structured so that all women entrepreneurs would gain from the project. He said, “This training goes beyond giving loans. It equips women with knowledge on financial management, business planning, and mindset development, which are key to growing their businesses sustainably.”
This particular training is focused on financial responsibility while educating women to save, budget and reinvest profit profitably. The women were instructed on how to separate personal and business expenses and the need to maintain records of every detail to ensure that growth and profitability could be measured. Time management and goal setting were also essential parts of the program.
Enterprise Uganda Director General Charles Ocici added that women have specific difficulties operating in an entrepreneurial environment because of societal pressures and competing demands, stating, “Women are often homemakers and caregivers, but they also need to compete in business. This training empowers them to handle multiple roles effectively while maintaining competitiveness. No matter your gender, if you can deliver efficiently and competitively, you can thrive in business.”
