Atlanta VAHCS Drives Healthcare Program for Women Veterans

By: Global Woman Leader Team | Friday, 19 June 2026

Atlanta Veterans Affairs Health Care System (VAHCS) employees took part in the We Care Fair conducted from June 11 to 12 at Rome, Georgia, strengthening its commitment to providing women veterans access to quality healthcare services.

The fair became a valuable venue for the program representatives to connect and interact with veterans, caregivers, and other relevant community members regarding their healthcare services, programs, and resources for those women who have been serving in the military.

Over the course of the two-day outreach activity, staff members conducted an information booth and individual consultations regarding the VA healthcare services, criteria of eligibility, and programs specifically addressing the healthcare requirements of women veterans.

Visitors were informed about significant health concerns and became aware of various kinds of health services offered by the program, such as preventive healthcare services, maternal care coordination, mental health support, breast and cervical cancer screening, and gender-specific wellness programs.

Key Highlights:

  • Atlanta VAHCS drives women veteran healthcare engagement
  • Direct outreach helps veterans access specialized VA programs
  • Cross-sector collaboration enhances veteran support services

Kathleen O’Loughlin, Atlanta VAHCS Women Veterans Program Manager said “Many women Veterans are unaware of the full range of services available to them through VA. Events like the We Care Fair allow us to meet Veterans where they are, provide valuable information, and help connect them with the care and support they have earned through their service. Our goal is to ensure every woman Veteran knows she has access to comprehensive, gender-specific care tailored to her needs.”

Through participating in the fair, the employees managed to raise awareness on the various programs, benefits and support mechanisms, thus equipping them with knowledge regarding the resources that are meant to enhance their health and general wellbeing.

“The conversations we had with Veterans were incredibly valuable,” Rosalyn Williams, an Air Force Veteran and Atlanta VAHCS said. “Many women Veterans still don't realize that VA offers specialized programs and services specifically designed for them. Being able to share that information and answer questions face-to-face helps build trust and encourages Veterans to take advantage of the resources available to support their health and wellness.”

Increasing the scope of veterans’ assistance by creating strategic community ties, the program representatives took advantage of the occasion to inform participants about the possibility of enrolment, various outreach programs, and special facilities which allow women veterans to take full advantage of VA benefits and obtain quality medical assistance locally.

The project demonstrated how committed the organization is to helping to overcome obstacles to accessing healthcare and improving veterans’ life in general.

Emphasizing the importance of cross-sector partnership, the We Care Fair brought together a wide array of organizations working to benefit the veteran population and their families. Serving as a portal that offers information, services, health care services, and programs, the fair increased the accessibility and visibility of these services for those in need. Simultaneously, the fair offered an essential platform where community partners could develop connections and look for new avenues of collaboration and cooperation.
