Melania Trump Rings NYSE Bell to Launch Women's Business Initiative

By: Global Woman Leader Team | Thursday, 24 September 2026

Melania Trump has launched Imperia, a new initiative focused on advancing women’s leadership and economic empowerment, with the First Lady ringing the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange.

The initiative brings together women leaders including CEOs, founders, innovators and entrepreneurs, with a focus on strengthening women’s role in business and the global economy. The NYSE described the inaugural gathering as a convening focused on the global economic power of women.

Addressing the gathering, Melania spoke about the changing nature of women’s participation in economic life. “For generations, women fought for a seat at the table,” she said, adding that the next phase should focus on “owning, growing and making space for the women who come next.”

Her remarks extended the conversation beyond representation in leadership positions to ownership and financial participation. She pointed to business ownership, equity, real estate, capital and investments, while also highlighting intellectual property, ideas and women’s broader economic interests.

  • Initiative brings CEOs, founders and entrepreneurs into focus
  • Her remarks spotlight women’s ownership, capital and economic influence

Melania Trump, serves her second non-consecutive term as First Lady, has combined public advocacy with business, fashion and philanthropic interests. Born in Slovenia, she moved to New York in 1996 and became a U.S. citizen in 2006. Before entering the White House, she built a career in modelling and later launched a jewellery and watch collection. The White House also describes her as an entrepreneur involved in areas including publishing, digital assets, skincare and filmmaking.

Her public work has traditionally placed considerable emphasis on children. During her current term, she has continued work connected to children and young people, including Fostering the Future and efforts involving children separated from their families by the Russia-Ukraine war. In July, she said five groups of Ukrainian and Russian children had been reunited with their families and that further reunifications were being pursued.

Melania also addressed questions about her relatively limited public appearances compared with her first term. In a Fox News interview on Wednesday, she said, “You don’t see me everywhere, but behind the scenes I’m working nonstop,” pointing to preparations for her New York engagements and the visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The NYSE appearance was not her first opening-bell ceremony. She previously rang the bell in January ahead of the release of her documentary, Melania. A new two-part docuseries featuring her is also scheduled for release in the fall. She said the upcoming project would take a more conversational, one-on-one approach and include personal subjects she had not previously discussed publicly.

With the latest NYSE appearance, Melania has added women’s economic participation and leadership to the broader portfolio of issues associated with her public role, bringing greater attention to women’s ownership, entrepreneurship, investment and influence in global business.
