Demonstrating the same, LVMH Group has appointed Laura Parkes as the HR Leader for South & Southeast Asia as of 14th September 2026, to further improve their people strategy in the region. Laura will be responsible for developing HR strategy for the group in South and Southeast Asia, specifically concentrating on talent management and organizational change management, and alignment of people agenda with the business needs.

As Millennium strengthens its global HR operations with experienced people leader, Francesca Antenucci has been appointed as Head of HR Operations for EMEA & Americas at Millennium. Dr. Helen Li Hongyu has been appointed Managing Director for Hong Kong & Mainland China at WSP, where she will be responsible for delivering integrated services and will help the company expand throughout the region. In an unprecedented move, Chou Ling-wen was elected as the first female president of the Chinese Taipei Baseball Association (CTBA). Chou won the election at the 14th board election of the CTBA and took over from Jeffrey Koo Jr., after defeating other CTBA board members J.W. Kuo and Lin Hua-wei. Chou plans to improve grassroots baseball, youth pathways and the study of sports science, calling her position a "service position and not one of power."

With the Danish royal family marking a historic first in military service, Denmark’s Princess Isabella has created history by becoming the first woman in the Danish monarchy to serve in the military forces. The 19-year-old daughter of King Frederik X and Queen Mary has been ordered to serve at Antvorskov Barracks from August 3rd, where she will serve for 11 months in the Guard Hussar Regiment as part of the compulsory military service of Denmark. This is because of the fact that Denmark has introduced compulsory military service for women through its defense reforms.

In a pioneering promotion shattering decades-old military leadership barrier, Özlem İyidilli Karapınar, a Turkish Air Force's fighter pilot, has become the first-ever woman to reach the rank of Brigadier General in the Turkish military force. This announcement came after the yearly meeting of the Supreme Military Council presided over by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Özlem İyidilli is among 69 colonels who were promoted to the rank of generals or admirals during the reshuffling process in the military.

Exhibiting extraordinary determination and execution, Olympic champion Janja Garnbret has climbed Biblialogie (9b+) in Céüse, France, becoming the first woman ever to make this climb and creating yet another record in the climbing field. This has been the second-ever 9b+ climb made by a woman, and as Janja herself has put it, this climb was more about patience and resilience than strength.

Entrepreneurs, Innovation, & Startup Ecosystem

Governments of various nations, financial institutions, and ecosystem partners are reinforcing their support for women entrepreneurs through funding, incubation and digital innovation.

In the same light, for building the local ecosystem of women-led startup companies, the Gyeongbuk Branch of Korea Women's Business Support Center has initiated the recruitment process for the 2026 Startup Incubation Center program, a government-backed initiative that will provide women entrepreneurs with access to space and mentorship, among other facilities, especially in terms of technology-driven companies and AI transformation.

Kazakhstan has launched the country’s first national platform to track financial inclusion for women entrepreneurs, reaffirming the nation’s dedication towards increasing the prospects for women’s entrepreneurship. The platform is an initiative of the Agency for Regulation and Development of the Financial Market along with the EBRD and is focused on evaluating loan data.

In order to boost the ecosystem of startups founded by women in the United Kingdom, Nationwide has partnered with FFR as their exclusive banking partner. The program will help more than 12,000 female and non-binary entrepreneurs by giving them better access to finance, expertise, networks, and tools to help grow their businesses.

As the strategic partnership expands funding and business support for women founders, the National Credit Guarantee Company (NCGC) of Nigeria has rolled out an innovative program called “GuaranteeHer” , a credit guarantee program that seeks to mobilize in excess of ₦100 billion to finance women-owned and women-managed MSMEs within a period of five years. This program guarantees up to 70 percent of qualifying loans and will kick off with a pilot program that will last for 12 months.

Continuing the momentum as a first-of-its-kind digital platform support for women-owned businesses, the Sarawak State Government has developed an initiative called the Women Entrepreneurship Dashboard (WED) to create one single platform to view the ecosystem of businesses run by women in Sarawak. WED is a joint project of JWKS, MINTRED and SCSDU and will help in making better policies and more relevant training programs for women entrepreneurs.

Stepping as new face onto the global stage with purpose, resilience and promise, Amelie Moore will be the new representative for Northern Ireland in the Miss World 2026 competition after the reigning Miss World, Carly Wilson, withdrew from the contest due to health reasons. The 18 year old student from Ballyclare, who is the first runner up of Miss Northern Ireland, is not just a brilliant academic but also a professional polo player in national level. She is a cancer awareness campaigner as well. Amelie is one of today's inspiring young women achievers, not only for her academic success, sporting prowess and social activism.

Honoring her legendary career with one of Japan's highest civilian honours, great speed skater Miho Takagi has won the People's Honor Award from the Prime Minister, Sanae Takaichi, making her the first speed skater to get such an award. She deserves this award for her great career in which she won 10 Olympic medals and is therefore the Japanese Olympian with the highest number of medals. She retires as the women's 1,500m world record holder and a 38-time World Cup winner. Miho is the 29th recipient of the award established in 1977.

According to a recent report published by Disrupt Africa, gender diverse African tech startups have received fewer investments despite making slow but consistent progress in terms of their presence in the ecosystem, emphasizing the obstacles that women entrepreneurs still face regarding access to funds. Published in collaboration with Madica, Thinkroom and Jumpstarter Crowdfunding, the report titled Diversity Dividend: Exploring Gender Equality in the African Tech Ecosystem, states that startups founded by women comprised only 7.1 percent of all funding in early 2026.

As the landmark political nomination signals growing representation and inclusivity in public office, Joanna Whaley has secured the Democratic nomination for Michigan's 2nd House District, making history as the first openly transgender candidate nominated by a major party for the Michigan Legislature. Winning 56% of the primary vote, she defeated Frank Liberati and Gary Schlack and will now face Republican Ron Kokinda in the November general election. If elected in November, Joanna will become Michigan's first openly transgender state legislator.
